by Ann Withanee — November 14, 2011—SOLON Corporation, one of the largest providers of turnkey solar power plants and photovoltaic (PV) products in the United States, has launched SOLquick, which SOLON describes as a patent pending new plug-and-play commercial rooftop solution. Initial SOLquick flat roof installation has proven to reduce mechanical installation time by over 85 percent and electrical installation time by 50 percent.

SOLquick’s integrated laminate plus mount design features Fibrex material from Andersen Corporation and brings “tremendous cost savings, simplicity and design value far above standard module installation practices” that benefit project financiers, designers, integrators, installers and end customers.

SOLON’s strategy to capture energy from the sun was demonstrated in force at October’s 2011 Solar Power International conference, in Dallas, Texas, where SOLON showcased its SOLquick commercial rooftop solution and took orders for delivery in next year’s first quarter. During the conference, SOLON also announced its exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Andersen Corporation, a major window brand in the United States. SOLquick’s lightweight frame is constructed with Fibrex material from Andersen.

To create a fast and easy-to-install solution for commercial rooftops, SOLquick is designed to ship directly to the work site—fully assembled as an integrated unit, with laminate and racking all in one. The product, says SOLON, can be installed in ten units per man-hour with simple module-to-module connection. Rapid installation is possible because the units require no assembly, grounding, or tools for installation. This greatly reduces the costs associated with standard racking methods, which require staging, assembly and grounding. In addition, notes SOLON, SOLquick is extremely lightweight at less than three pounds per square foot average distributed weight.

“SOLON is taking rooftop PV to new heights,” quips Dan Alcombright, Chief Executive Officer and President of North America for SOLON. The company provides solutions for residential, commercial and utility-scale applications.
