by Shane Henson — June 5, 2013—Facilities managers working at healthcare and veterinary facilities may be able to substantially reduce the spread of viruses and other health threats found on surfaces through having cleaning staff use a new phenolic disinfectant from Spartan Chemical Company Inc.
According to Spartan, the disinfectant, PD-128, is formulated to provide efficacy claims relevant to current industry conditions, including 22 strains of bacteria, 14 viruses, and 2 types of fungi. It also carries a claim for Canine Parvovirus, and is compliant with OSHA’s Blood Borne Pathogen Standard. The product can be used on a variety of pre-cleaned, hard surfaces, including floors, walls, and other high-touch surfaces, and is suitable for use in operating rooms, intensive care, emergency areas, patient rooms, dog kennels and veterinary facilities.
“While quaternary-based disinfectants are a viable option for most disinfecting jobs, there are cases where infection control personnel prefer a phenolic,” says Greg Ford, vice president of sales for Spartan. “Our PD-128 is designed for these specialized cases where a higher level of disinfection is required like surgical rooms, critical care areas and animal health facilities.”
