by Ann Withanee — March 18, 2011—Special-Lite, Inc., has added the SL-301 Adjustable Bottom Brush to its selection of hardware options for its full line of monumental and flush doors, including the company’s aluminum, FRP and AMP models to help reduce light and vermin infiltration under door bottoms and prevent air leaks that can compromise HVAC system efficiency and waste energy, says the company.
The Special-Lite Adjustable Bottom Brush compensates for floor condition irregularities in new construction such as out-of-level or out-of-position final floors to provide a good weather-tight fit at door bottoms. For existing doors, the Adjustable Bottom Brush can easily be retrofit into the door to address issues arising from normal settling of older buildings, according to Special-Lite.
The patent-pending concealed device uses two nylon bristle brushes to create a weather-tight seal with any style threshold. The SL-301 Adjustable Bottom Brush can be factory-installed on any Special-Lite Monumental or Flush Door. It can also be easily retrofit to Special-Lite Doors in the field by maintenance or facility staff, eliminating the need for surface applied sweeps. It is compatible with most types of commercial hardware, but is not compatible with concealed or surface vertical rods.
The SL-301 Adjustable Bottom Brush has been tested for over 1.5 million open and close cycles without any change in adjustment. It has also been salt spray tested to 500 hours to ensure suitability for difficult environmental conditions.
Special-Lite manufactures complete entrance systems consisting of flush, monumental, wood grain doors, colonial doors, panels and framing for new construction and replacement installations in educational, commercial, institutional, industrial and municipal applications. The company says it pioneered the use of fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) material for door skins in the early 1980s and says it is the largest volume producer of FRP doors in the U.S. It adds that Special-Lite’s entrance products were the first to earn GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification, including the Children & Schools Standard.
