STANLEY Access Technologies re-imagines door automation with the manual/automatic door system

by Brianna Crandall — July 6, 2015—STANLEY Access Technologies, the automatic door business unit of STANLEY Security, announces the official launch of the Express-Swing, a new product that exemplifies the company’s 80+ year reputation for innovation, quality and performance. STANLEY Security is a division of Stanley Black & Decker.

To better serve the facilities management community’s specific entryway requirements for space optimization, safety, energy savings, and a retrofit-ready design, STANLEY’s team of engineers have created the Express-Swing, which the company says is the industry’s first manual/automatic door of its kind.

The Express-Swing started with the STANLEY engineers rethinking the fundamental elements that define entryways. Replacing the large panel of a typical 3′ door are two smaller, lighter synchronized panels that swing both in and out. The Express-Swing can also seamlessly transform to automation on demand with a push button or touch-less wave sensor when extra assistance is needed.

This all-in-one solution includes the operator, panels, frame, hardware and sensors, and is retrofit-ready for existing 36″-42″ door openings. It is easy to install, operate and maintain, and is appreciated by those who own and use it, says the company. Among the benefits enumerated by customers is the freedom the door brings for the elderly and the handicapped.

The door can be ideal for any situation where space is limited, such as: healthcare facilities, restaurant entrances and patios, labs, retail and convenience stores, post offices and bathrooms.

The two-panel design requires only half the swing clearance of traditional swing doors, improving safety and allowing the door to close in half the time to minimize heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) costs. The company says it is ideal for any situation where space is limited, such as: healthcare facilities, restaurant entrances and patios, labs, retail and convenience stores, post offices and bathrooms.

Features and benefits:

  • Two overhead sensors to detect presence and close the door once the swing path has cleared
  • Two small panels for fast open/close
  • Small footprint: Only 1’5″ swing path arch
  • Two- or three-point locking for security
  • Easy install with no cosmetic damage to existing structure
  • Available in clear, dark bronze or special finish

The Express-Swing is UL-rated, ADA-compliant and rigorously tested, and includes a one-year warranty.
