by Rebecca Walker — February 18, 2011—Staples Advantage, the business-to-business division of Staples Inc., has expanded its Sustainable Earth line with eco-friendly kitchen, breakroom and janitorial products, the majority of them certified for compostability or recycled content.

Goods in the Sustainable Earth by Staples line include remanufactured toner cartridges, office products made from recycled material and cleaning supplies.

With the new product additions, the line now offers half a dozen types of compostable kitchen and breakroom products—cutlery, plates, bowls, cold and hot cups with lids and hot cup sleeves—that are certified by the Biodegradable Product Institute as meeting American Society for Testing and Materials International Standards.

Also new to the Sustainable Earth by Staples line are six types of paper products— facial tissues, toilet paper and folded and perforated paper towels— that have received Green Seal certification for being made of 100 percent recovered paper fiber, containing a minimum of 40 percent post-consumer content and meeting the eco-label’s environmental standard for bleaching, packaging and removal of ink.

Napkins make from 100 percent recycled fiber and 60 percent post-consumer material and “hard roll” paper towels made from 80 percent post-consumer recycled content also are available in the product line.
