by Shane Henson — October 22, 2012—Steelcase Store and Turnstone have teamed up to launch 3D Room Designer, a software application that makes planning and designing workspaces easy for facilities managers or anyone involved in creating office spaces, whether for a startup company, home office, or large corporate workspace.
Using gaming technology, 3D Room Designer allows users to create, customize and optimize a simple workspace, saving money, time, and energy from having to physically move office furniture around, says Turnstone.
Additional benefits of the software include the ability to:
- Create real-time social interaction and sharing via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail, enabling shared creativity and co-creation;
- Plan workspaces in two dimensions (2D) or three dimensions (3D), measured in both metric and standard units;
- Choose a room layout, drag-and-drop Steelcase or Turnstone furniture, and choose the colors; and
- Purchase the entire drawing.
To celebrate the launch of their 3D Room Designer tool, Steelcase and Turnstone are hosting a design contest. FMs and want-to-be office designers can participate by using the tool to design a space and publish it on the site. Each entry submitted will automatically be entered into a weekly drawing for a Steelcase Leap or Cobi chair, the companies say.
