by Brianna Crandall — June 6, 2011—To address new building code requirements, Sto Corp., a global provider of cladding, coating and restoration systems, introduces StoEnergy Guard, an integrated cavity wall solution that is used for seamless protection under multiple cladding types, including stone, siding, stucco and more.
With StoEnergy Guard, the company leverages cavity wall design and rainscreen technology to provide energy efficiency and durability in a simple yet effective solution. StoEnergy Guard integrates a fluid-applied waterproof air barrier, sheathing joint and rough opening protection, proven drainage technology, and approved continuous insulation into a flexible system that can be designed to meet individual climate zone and building code requirements.
For increased safety and comfort, StoEnergy Guard is designed to reduce energy use in hot and cold climates and is comprised of Class A building materials tested for low flame spread and smoke development. The product offers improved air quality and thermal comfort as well as resistance to mold and mildew.
The Sto DrainScreen mat facilitates moisture escape between the protected substrate and cladding by allowing water that reaches the back of the cladding to drain to the outside, and it also helps speed the drying of moisture-laden air. And, incorporating approved continuous insulation enhances energy efficiency and eliminates thermal bridging while significantly improving the effective R-value of the wall assembly, says the company.
According to Sto Corp., the StoEnergy Guard’s components are energy efficient, durable and sustainable, and are all under one warranty. The solution is reportedly compliant with numerous codes and standards including the International Building Code (IBC) 2012, IECC 2012, IGCC 2012, NBC 2010, ASHRAE 90.1 and ASHRAE 189.1, as well as state and local codes. Sto Corp. is certified to ISO 14001:2004 (environmental management) and ISO 9001:2008 standards. Sto says its products are safe and nontoxic, and have low VOCs.
