For workers who like to curl up in their easy chair, these Studio TK swivel armchairs offer a comfortable spot away from their desk

by Brianna Crandall — October 4, 2019 — Studio TK, a contract furniture company focused on developing social applications, just announced the North American launch of three classic F500 Series swivel armchairs as well as an IDEA award for its Cesto Seating and Table Elements Collection.

F500 Series swivel armchairs

Studio TK launched three F500 Series swivel armchairs — the F510, F585 and F588 — in North America. Designed by Geoffrey Harcourt in 1967, the F500 series is touted as a classic armchair with a comfortable shape and striking upholstery.

Charlie Bell, president, Studio TK, stated:

Last year we announced a new product partnership with Artifort to manufacture and distribute the renowned Dutch company’s chairs, tables and sofas in North America. These three classic F500 Series armchairs represent the latest Artifort furnishings that Studio TK is offering. Producing the products in our Clayton, North Carolina, facility provides customers with shorter lead times.

British designer Geoffrey Harcourt’s inspiration behind the F500 Series of seating arose from his girlfriend at the time, who liked to curl up in a cross-legged position, which fascinated him. The result: the F500 Series. The chair has all the comfort of an easy chair and is wide enough to accommodate this position. The shell is large enough to curl up in and is said to be the paragon of Harcourt’s philosophy that the chair should focus on the person, not the other way around.

F510, F585 and F588 are swivel armchairs with trumpet bases, informed by a shell-shaped template. Three upholstery styles make the chairs highly configurable and unique. A fixed upholstery has clean stylings for corporate interiors, and a welted version adds aspects of home, while the tufted button version is an iconic piece that makes a statement. Contrasting upholstery is available on certain models.

Each model is available with a painted disc base in 16 colors.

Studio TK introduced Artifort’s Beso seating collection, Pala lounge, Kalm lounge and Nina seating to North America at NeoCon 2018. The F510, F585 and F588 swivel armchairs were previewed at NeoCon 2019.

Designer Geoffrey D. Harcourt trained at the Royal College of Art in London and has designed for Artifort since 1962, generating international success. Harcourt has won many prizes, and in 1978 he was awarded the title of Royal Designer for Industry.
