Techspray solvent offers safer, effective industrial cleaning

by Brianna Crandall — October 9, 2015—Techspray, a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) and manufacturer of precision cleaners for electronics, industrial and electrical applications around the world, has introduced a high-performance, cost-effective cleaning solvent engineered to be a safer alternative to common industrial solvents like n-propyl bromide (nPB).

Techspray's PWR-4 solvent

Techspray’s high-performance, cost-effective cleaning solvent is engineered to be a safer alternative to common industrial solvents like n-propyl bromide (nPB).

PWR-4 Maintenance Cleaner quickly dissolves oils, greases, fluxes, silicones, dirt and grime, says Techspray. Fast evaporation and high dielectric strength allows work to be completed quickly, minimizing equipment downtime.

PWR-4 is designed for wiping down parts and machines, and for use in ultrasonic cleaning equipment and vapor-degreaser equipment. It is available in gallon (part #3400-G), 5-gallon (#3400-5G), and 55-gallon drums (#3400-54G).

PWR-4 can be ideal for use where a safer, non-flammable, and cost-effective cleaner is required. According to Techspray, the product is much safer than the four common industrial solvents: nPB, trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (perc), and methylene chloride, but with similar cleaning performance. Because of safety concerns, these four solvents have a great number of regional and federal restrictions, as evidenced by a field study by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), in which it is recommended to replace nPB in aerospace vapor-degreasing.

According to Techspray, PWR-4 Maintenance Cleaner has no impact on the ozone layer, so it can be used to replace AK225-based solvents, which were phased out by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) starting in 2015.
