by Shane Henson — December 21, 2012—Teknion Corporation, an international designer and manufacturer of office systems and furniture products, has released a comfortable new chair designed to give office workers everywhere a sigh of relief.
The company’s Responsive Back Technology (RBT) Task Chair encourages proper posture, promotes dynamic movement and continuously supports changes in posture, the company says. The chair back comfortably, automatically and harmoniously responds and conforms to the back shape and size of the user.
The chair’s back consists of an aluminum support structure and a user back interface comprising a set of ribs and linkages. With this unique structure, RBT automatically flexes to respond to the shape of the user’s back and supports continuous changes in posture, says Teknion. The concept of fit is central to the chair’s design as it mirrors the shape of the spine across the range of seated postures.
Designed by Zooey Chu and Gary Bacon of Synergy Product Development, the chair will be available in January 2013.
“RBT represents an evolutionary leap in seated comfort and support for people of varying shapes and sizes,” said Chu. “With responsive back technology, RBT is a significantly different task chair both visually and technically. RBT is visually distinct with a silhouette reminiscent of the human body, communicating ergonomic expression at the foundation of the chair’s design. With the functionality and adjustability of a fully featured synchro-tilt task chair, its articulating, highly dynamic and responsive back adds superior comfort to task seating.”
