by Rebecca Walker — July 22, 2009—The Ascent Group completed its sixth annual benchmarking study to evaluate meter reading performance and practices. Forty-three utilities participated in the research that examined how utilities optimize practices and utilize technology to improve meter reading performance and reduce operating costs. Results from this study are available in Meter Reading Profiles & Best Practices 2009.
In addition to providing industry-level analysis and benchmark comparisons, the report highlights panel participants in a case study format, sharing current practices, lessons learned, challenges overcome, plans for the future, and business practices that have led to improved performance.
The report also examines meter reading technologies in place within these utilities, provides an analysis of strategies and approaches, including the transition to Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technologies and other advanced metering technologies.
An executive summary of the research results is available online. The complete results are available in a printed format, on CD-Rom, and online in downloadable pdf files.
