by Brianna Crandall — September 7, 2015—Facilities managers in China concerned with resource-efficient IT and data centers may appreciate the recent announcement by The Green Grid Association, the global authority on effective and accountable resource efficiency across the entire information and communications technology (ICT) ecosystem, of the creation of the nonprofit TGG China.
Registered in China to facilitate in-country operations and to ensure full compliance with Chinese laws, TGG China offers the organization a platform to better connect with the Chinese data center industry. TGG China is affiliated with the China Communication Standards Association (CCSA), a nonprofit organization under the Chinese Ministry of Information and Industry Technology.
Unlike other TGG regional organizations such as TGG U.S., TGG Japan and TGG EMEA, TGG China is organizationally and legally independent of TGG Global. TGG China will operate much like other TGG organizations, with TGG China-generated activities tracking either on a global class or on one for consumption by the Chinese market only. Global projects and activities will follow current TGG rules, including processes giving all global members the opportunity to review, comment and participate in ways identical to all other global projects.
Members from Chinese companies and entities will join TGG China and TGG Global simultaneously and pay membership dues for the appropriate member classes (General Member, Contributor Member, etc.) to TGG China according to the membership dues schedule set forth by TGG Global. TGG China members will enjoy all benefits that TGG global members do for the appropriate member classes such as access to member-only materials, and joining various workgroups and activities.
TGG China also announced a PUE (power usage effectiveness) Certification program for the Chinese data center market to enable PUE numbers to be scrutinized per guidelines set forth by TGG’s White Paper #49 and to be published as reliable and trustworthy PUE numbers. TGG China will now accept and review applications from eligible entities that wish to be authorized to issue PUE certificates to data centers located inside China.
As the very first organization to receive PUE Certification authorization from TGG China, Reference Telecommunication Network (RTNet), a subsidiary organization of CAICT, is now authorized to certify Green Grade Assessment. This Assessment includes PUE and related technology and management elements.
For those who are interested in TGG China activities and who can read Chinese, more information is available on the TGG China Web site, which is under construction.
