The Green Grid to help optimize data center energy efficiency in Singapore—key Asia-Pacific hub

by Brianna Crandall — July 16, 2014—The Green Grid Association recently announced the launch of the TGG Singapore Interest Group, a member-driven team dedicated to helping develop resource-efficient information technology and data centers in this large and growing Asia-Pacific data center and telecommunications hub.

Using The Green Grid’s position as an internationally recognized leader on information technology (IT) resource efficiency, the TGG Singapore Interest Group plans to collaborate with data center owner/operators and government agencies in Singapore to drive increased energy efficiency in the design and operation of next-generation data centers.

“With globalization making the world a smaller place, multinational companies often consolidate their IT resources and functions in key regional hubs for better efficiency, cost control and governance. Singapore is actively positioning itself as one of Southeast Asia’s leading countries for that IT activity,” said Roger Tipley, member of The Green Grid Association’s Board of Directors and vice president, Global Industry and Government Alliances, at Schneider Electric.

Top priorities proposed for the group include investigating higher ambient temperatures in data centers and improving energy efficiency of data center operations in tropical environments.

Tipley added, “The Green Grid believes that investing in energy-efficient IT contributes to economic growth and optimized resource use across all industry sectors while achieving bottom-line results for businesses. We welcome subject matter experts to join and contribute to the TGG Singapore Interest Group and its development projects.”

More information on the TGG Singapore Interest Group and other Interest Groups within The Green Grid is available on the organization’s Interest Group home page.
