Cleaning industry management and green building standards: Three facilities services companies earn ISSA certifications CIMS and CIMS-GB

by Brianna Crandall — March 24, 2017 — Worldwide cleaning industry association ISSA recently announced that two facilities services companies have successfully completed certification to the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) criteria, with a third also earning CIMS-Green Building (CIMS-GB) certification, considered the cleaning industry’s highest rating of quality compliance. This qualification makes the companies prime candidates for contracted services.

Broadway Services and FBG Service Corp.

Broadway Services and FBG Service Corp. completed certification to the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) criteria.

To earn CIMS certification, the two building service contractors underwent a comprehensive assessment by an independent, accredited CIMS assessor to demonstrate its delivery of consistent, quality service and a commitment to efficient operations and continuous improvement.

As a result, Broadway Services and FBG Service demonstrated compliance with the five core standard principles of CIMS:

  • Quality systems
  • Service delivery
  • Human resources
  • Health, safety, and environmental stewardship
  • Management commitment

Broadway Services is a Baltimore, Maryland-based provider of facilities management and maintenance services.

Based in Omaha, Nebraska, FBG Service Corp. delivers a range of contracted janitorial and custodial services.

Allied Universal Janitorial Division

ISSA also awarded Allied Universal’s Janitorial division its Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) and CIMS-Green Building (GB) certification, signifying the company delivers first-rate service in California and Arizona.

The company’s administrative processes, the cleanliness of the properties, and the inspection of the equipment and chemicals were reviewed in detail over a three-day period, and Allied Universal reportedly passed with flying colors. Independent, accredited assessors verified that the company meets the industry standard for the five CIMS qualities listed above, as well as for green building.

Compliance with the standard shows that a cleaning organization has the systems in place to deliver consistent, professional services designed to meet customer needs and expectations and is prepared to deliver a comprehensive green-cleaning program based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB: O&M) green cleaning criteria.

Recently, CIMS-GB became a direct compliance option to meet the green cleaning policy prerequisite of Version 4 of the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) revised LEED EB: O&M rating system.

CIMS and CIMS-GB certification are required in many cleaning service bid specifications as customers look for an effective way to identify high-quality providers committed to customer satisfaction, points out ISSA.

Allied Universal Janitorial Services, which specializes in green cleaning services for commercial facilities in California and Arizona, is a 100% “green” janitorial company, using only environmentally friendly products and practices.
