by Brianna Crandall — September 22, 2010—The U.K.’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced recently the 149 colleges across England that will benefit from 50 million of government funding announced in May to invest in new buildings and renovate existing ones. The building projects are intended to give students access to more modern and sophisticated equipment.
These 149 colleges will each receive up to a 225,000 Renewal Grant once they raise the necessary matching funds from private sources. Some successful bidders will win Enhanced Renewal Grants, taking their totals up to 1 million.
Government grants will be provided by the Skills Funding Agency, and have been raised through funds reallocated from the Train to Gain scheme. Building will start immediately on most projects, with new facilities becoming available from the start of the 2011 academic year.
