by Brianna Crandall — December 4, 2017 — Cornell University and facility services provider UG2 recently announced their multi-year agreement for comprehensive integrated facilities management services at the newly developed Cornell Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City.
Cornell Tech is the technology-focused campus of Cornell University located in New York City. It is said to be the first campus ever built for the digital age, bringing together academia and industry to create pioneering leaders and transformational new research, products, companies and social ventures.
Cornell Tech is an innovative research and graduate-level education institution, offering programs at the masters, doctoral and postdoctoral levels, that is collaborating extensively with tech-oriented companies and organizations and pursuing their own startups.
The first phase of the Roosevelt Island campus opened in September and reportedly features some of the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings in the world. When fully completed, the campus will include 2 million square feet of state-of-the-art buildings, over two acres of open space, and will be home to more than 2,000 graduate students and hundreds of faculty and staff.
Facilities management in an academic environment is a complex and multi-faceted function, points out UG2.
