by AF0620 k3 — June 23, 2010—The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently approved a statement in support of the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard’s (CIMS) Green Building (GB) criteria and designation.
The USGBC’s support of CIMS-GB as a LEED-Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) resource further substantiates CIMS-GB as the preeminent green-cleaning management framework and certification for cleaning organizations, says ISSA.
The official statement approved by the USGBC reads, “The USGBC supports CIMS-GB as a valuable resource to assist in securing LEED-Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance credits for green cleaning activities.”
Introduced in October 2009, CIMS-GB focuses on the delivery of environmentally preferable cleaning service and offers cleaning organizations a certification that is closely tailored to provide customers with precisely what they need to secure credits under the LEED-EBOM Green Building Rating System, while greening operations overall.
“Securing the support of the USGBC further validates CIMS-GB as the leading green certification for organizations in the cleaning industry,” stated ISSA Director of Facility Service Programs Dan Wagner. “We certainly anticipate that such support will accelerate the growth of the program, especially considering the value it provides both the cleaning organizations who seek certification, as well as the building owners, facility managers and other end users who rely on it in selecting a service provider who is capable of meeting their sustainability needs and assisting them in securing LEED credits.” In addition to illustrating their commitment to sustainability and providing added value to customers, CIMS-GB-certified organizations represent the cleaning industry as companies of operational excellence. To date, 18 building service contractors and in-house service providers are certified to both CIMS and CIMS-GB.
