by Brianna Crandall — April 18, 2011—The Research to Practice Program (R2P2) is a new initiative being piloted through the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) that will engage interdisciplinary teams of collegiate faculty, students and staff in hands-on green building research that contributes to a broader understanding of green building potential and best practices for buildings of any type.
By collecting systematic information about practice and performance patterns in buildings and communities, green and conventional, old and new, R2P2 will aggregate in-depth analysis of the built environment that will educate and inform other institutions and communities about untapped greening opportunities. The resulting research will be used to compare and share information, create educational tools and provide USGBC and the building community with the most up-to-date information on the evolution of green building and LEED.
With support from the Center’s founding sponsor United Technologies Corporation, the program will provide project investigation teams with benchmarking tools and applications to assess the built environment, whether on their campus or in their community. R2P2 participants will gain a multi-faceted understanding of green building practice as the areas of focus are broad, flexible and open to team choice, making it easy for faculty members to take it to the next level by integrating the program into their curriculum or research initiatives, says the Center.
The call for interest in R2P2 is now open. Faculty and students interested in participating in the program can register through June 30, 2011 through the Web site for USGBC’s Higher Education Research.
