by Brianna Crandall — October 24, 2014—Of note to building owners and managers looking to install a new fire protection system or update their exiting one, Valley Fire Protection Systems just announced that the company has been selected to design and install complete fire protection systems in a massive new tire distribution facility being built in Wilmington, Illinois.
“We are thrilled to have been handpicked by the general contractor, Ledcor, and the tenant for this fast-track, highly complex project owned by Ridge Property Trust,” said Valley President Tom Hartel. “Tire storage is as challenging as it gets in fire protection, and our competitors would not commit to meeting such an aggressive project schedule. Our engineers and installation crews are really excited for this project given that they just completed significant work at the BP refinery in Whiting, Ind., earlier this year.”
Phase one of the complex of buildings totals 1.65 million square feet of warehousing. The fire protection systems begin with a remote pump house that will contain three 2,500 gallon-per-minute diesel fire pumps, and a pair of 250,000-gallon water storage tanks that will supply a 16-inch underground fire loop. Thirty individual underground water mains will supply 40 early-suppression, fast-response warehouse systems, 10 fire-hose valve systems, and eight office/transfer link systems.
Valley plans to ship on this fall and complete work by late spring 2015. Vice President John Flynn and Chief Engineer Robert Martin will manage the project.
Valley Fire Protection Systems provides fire protection systems and services as well as plumbing services for industrial, commercial, residential and special hazard facilities in the Chicago metropolitan area, focused on delivering complex projects on schedule and within budget with integrity and quality.
