Vidaris announces new Code Advisory practice led by former NYC buildings commissioner

by Brianna Crandall — May 8, 2015—Building consultant services provider Vidaris Inc. has announced a new Code Advisory practice headed by New York principal and former New York City Department of Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri. The services offered by the group will enhance the current development process by helping clients understand complex, newly adopted building, energy and zoning codes.

Vidaris’ team is said to have a wide range of expertise in interpreting codes and providing due diligence, plan review, compliance strategy and municipal support. The group’s goal is to maximize their clients’ return on investments by finding opportunities in codes and zoning early in development. In addition, the group will provide other jurisdictions with assistance in the adoption of new codes and enforcement strategies. The team of experts reportedly have the experience to work in any city around the United States and throughout the world where the International Building Code (IBC) is used.

Joining LiMandri in this practice are three professionals who worked in the New York City Department of Buildings HUB and Technical Affairs office, bringing a combined total experience on tens of thousands of building projects of all types. They will work in collaboration with the over 100 architects, engineers and other professionals in Vidaris, to provide “the highest level of service” to clients throughout the design, construction and post-occupancy stages of any project.

“Bob LiMandri led the New York City Buildings Department through two Building Code revisions and during one of the highest construction levels in decades,” Steven Spinola, president of the Real Estate Board of New York, said. “By bringing that experience to Vidaris, he will be offering an unparalleled level of understanding and expertise to the industry.”

The Code Advisory experts can provide review for zoning provisions and development potential such as floor area ratio and use, multiple dwelling regulations, and building/fire/energy code issues. The team reportedly knows what to look for, and solving issues prior to presentation to the municipality is where they specialize in significantly reducing cost and wait time. While focused in New York City, the team has advised municipalities around the world including Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Norway and Singapore.

“Too often projects are sent to the Department of Buildings and it’s already too late to make a difference,” LiMandri said. “Our deep understanding of the multifaceted issues that builders face creates returns for our clients on every level.”

Vidaris helps real estate owners and architects realize their goals and objectives through a holistic approach in the areas of building envelope, energy efficiency, sustainability and code advisory. Vidaris provides services worldwide out of its New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut offices.
