by Rebecca Walker — April 8, 2009 Weston Solutions, Inc., and Rebecca Cole Design partnered to create “Sky’s the Limit,” a green roof garden and living space exposition at the 24th Annual San Francisco Flower & Garden Show in March.
“Sky’s the Limit” earned the top honor, the Golden Gate Cup Award (Best in Show), as well as 4 other awards: Sunset Western Living Award; California Association of Nursery & Garden Centers Award; Association of Professional Landscape Designers Award; and the Gold Medal Garden Creator Award.
Green roofs and rooftop gardens have become increasingly popular due to their environmental benefits and the increased national push for green building design and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, says Weston.
The 1,100-square-foot roof garden displayed a living green roof featuring Weston’s modular GreenGrid green roof system, which was seamlessly integrated in the concrete paver roof deck and around the penthouse.
Planted with sedum varieties, other succulents and ornamental grasses, the system offered lush plantings of various color, texture and contrast. In addition, three green walls were planted with succulent plants installed by Mark Campbell of Garden of Eden Landscapes in coordination with Weston’s partner nursery, Mountain Crest Gardens. Cole’s integrated living design included green furniture, green rugs and green art.
Weston has completed more than 400 GreenGrid projects in 37 states. For more on the company, see its Web site.
