by Brianna Crandall — May 30, 2014—Global FM and its worldwide alliance of FM organizations are reminding facilities managers and FM organizations around the world to celebrate World FM Day on June 4. Global FM initiated the annual event in 2008 as a way to recognize FM professionals and the industry as a whole for the vital work they do to influence the health, safety, productivity and well-being of people who utilize the built environment.
This year’s theme is “Connected FM, Connected World—Global Knowledge Sharing,” focusing on how FMs connect with their own organizations, how they understand their clients, and importantly, how they can tailor and share information and learning to grow individual businesses and the profile of the wider industry.
FM organizations around the world are planning activities ranging from formal panel seminars to client networking events to staff get-togethers as a way of engaging individuals, companies, associations and partners in celebrating their successes and showing the world the important contributions facilities management brings to the built environment.
For example, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is planning a World FM Day Twitter Chat on June 4: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT, @IFMA will pose a hot topic FM question on Twitter every 30 minutes. Join the conversation using #WorldFMDay and connect with colleagues from around the world. IFMA is also offering a discount of $100 on its Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Sustainable Facility Professional (SFP) credentials if purchased by June 15, with the discount code “FMDAY2014” at checkout.
Global FM is encouraging additional individuals and organizations to organize events and share them on the Global FM Web site as a means of connecting with each other in celebration and celebrating successes. At a minimum, the organization encourages FM professionals to take a moment to reflect on their achievements over the past year. Global FM will also be announcing the Global FM Awards for Excellence on June 4.
