Zilog releases ZMOTION detection/control module with advanced sensing

by Ann Withanee — November 22, 2010—Zilog, a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation and supplier of application specific, embedded micro controller (MCU) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for industrial, power management and consumer applications, has introduced novel detection and control technology ideal for motion detection applications, including customer sensing, lighting control and other energy management applications, according to Zilog.

Zilog’s ZMOTION Module features advanced sensing and control technology which includes a high-performance microcontroller with unique embedded software specifically designed for products requiring control based on Passive Infrared (PIR) motion detection. This comes as a complete module that is designed to drop directly into new designs making this a fast implementation with reduction in development time.

The module combines the programmability and rich peripheral set of Zilog’s Z8FS040 series of microcontrollers with a revolutionary new software design that has expanded motion detection capabilities with powerful built-in software algorithms. The combination is then tuned with the quality pyroelectric sensor and a low profile Fresnel lens for a complete package that is optimized for multiple motion sensing and control applications. The customer benefits with the new solutions include unparalleled performance and flexibility when designing their devices, faster product development cycles and more flexible manufacturing and firmware changes in the field.

Zilog ZMOTION Module featuring PIR Technology is currently in production and now available to ship to customers that place orders through distributors.
