Renovating? Find out how new dust barrier products keep the dust out of occupied spaces

by Brianna Crandall — July 7, 2017 — ZipWall recently announced two additions to its comprehensive ZipWall Dust Barrier System, which was created to keep dust out of occupied areas during a construction or renovation project and to help meet lead abatement compliance rules.

FoamRail Span Mini Tapeless Seal

The FoamRail Span Mini Tapeless Seal is an adjustable rail that extends up to four feet and tightly seals a dust barrier without tape. It is the newest addition to the ZipWall Dust Barrier System and a complement to the longer FoamRail Span adjustable tapeless seal, which extends up to eight feet.

Mini Tapeless Seal

FoamRail Span Mini Tapeless Seal snaps onto any ZipWall spring-loaded pole and seals a dust barrier in seconds.

Jeff Whittemore, founder and president of ZipWall, noted:

The new FoamRail Span Mini is designed for constructing a dust barrier that fits just about any space, especially in situations where you need less than four feet to complete a tight seal.

As a component of the ZipWall Dust Barrier System, this new product snaps onto any ZipWall spring-loaded pole and seals a dust barrier in seconds. Once attached, it pushes the barrier against the ceiling, floor, or wall, preventing dust from escaping the work area — without the use of ladders or tape and with no damage to the surface, says the company.

The Span Mini adds to the versatility of the ZipWall FoamRail product family. It is reusable, cost effective, and ideal for small spaces in both residential and commercial job sites. It can be used with negative or positive air, and is a must-have for restoration, healthcare renovation, and any construction project requiring dust control for protecting people outside the job site, says ZipWall.

The ZipWall FoamRail Span Mini Adjustable Tapeless Seal features important advantages:

  • Forms a dust-tight seal in seconds
  • Adjustable; extends from 2′ 3″ to 4′ to fit the size of the job
  • Requires no ladders or tape, and leaves no damage
  • Reusable and cost-effective

ZipWall Mat

ZipWall also introduced the ZipWall Mat as part of its comprehensive ZipWall Dust Barrier System. The ZipWall Mat prevents the tracking of dust in and out of the work area. Its adhesive surface captures dust from shoe soles on contact, and is strong enough to remove dust from casters and wheels.

ZipWall Mat

ZipWall Mat helps control dust at worksite entrances and helps comply with EPA’s Lead RRP Rule.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends the use of tacky mats to help comply with its Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP Rule), which requires that renovation firms use precautions to ensure that all personnel, tools, and other items are free of dust and debris before leaving the work area.

According to the EPA Inspection Manual for the RRP Rule, “tacky mats may be put down immediately adjacent to the plastic sheeting covering the work area floor to remove dust and debris from the bottom of the workers’ shoes as they leave the work area.”

Each ZipWall Mat Starter Kit features a durable, reusable, non-skid base designed to prevent shifting and sliding, and includes a pad of 30 adhesive sheets. (Base dimensions: 25″×37″; mat dimensions: 24″×36″). Also new from ZipWall is a four-pack tacky mat refill that includes four pads of 24″×36″ clear adhesive sheets for use with the ZipWall Mat base.

ZipWall Mat key features include:

  • Prevents tracking dust in and out of the work area
  • Adhesive surface captures dust from shoe soles, casters and wheels on contact
  • Surface area long enough for two steps
  • Reusable non-skid base prevents shifting and sliding
  • Individually tabbed and numbered sheets are ready to use — simply peel away the top sheet to expose a new surface
