by Brianna Crandall — April 28, 2014—ASIS International, the worldwide organization for security professionals, and AENOR, the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification, have reached an agreement under which AENOR will translate four of the ASIS ANSI standards into Spanish.
“Translation of these global standards is the first step,” observes ASIS Chapter 143 (Spain) Chairman Juan Muñoz, CPP, who has taken a leadership role in evolution of this agreement. “There is a very wide population of Spanish-speaking security management professionals around the world who will benefit greatly from having access to these important resources.”
Spanish-speaking facilities managers around the world whose duties include managing security for their facilities will also benefit from this important development.
The four ASIS ANSI standards to be translated are:
- ASIS/SHRM WVPI.1-2011 Workplace Violence Prevention and Intervention
- ANSI/ASIS PAP.1-2012 Security Management Standard: Physical Asset Protection
- ANSI/ASIS PSC.1-2012 Management System for Quality of Private Security Company Operations – Requirements with Guidance
- ANSI/ASIS SPC.1-2009 Organizational Resilience: Security Preparedness and Continuity Management Systems – Requirements with Guidance for Use
Two of these four standards (WVPI.1-2011 and SPC.1-2009) are part of the reference set for the ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification, which is recognized as the global standard for proficiency within the security management profession, notes ASIS.
An ANSI-accredited Standards Developing Organization, ASIS works with national and international standards-setting organizations to advance security practices worldwide throughout the development of standards and guidelines with a voluntary, non-proprietary and consensus-based process. A complete list of all ASIS Standards and Guidelines currently under development is available from the ASIS Web site upon log-in.
