May 1, 2002—AirSource, a division of Shaklee US Inc., has introduced the new AirSource 3000 air purification system. It is the first air purifier to combine two patent-pending technologies—photo-ionization and electron generation— to effectively reduce the three major types of indoor air pollution: Particulates such as dust, pollen, dander, and tobacco smoke; gases and odors; and microbes such as mold spores, bacteria, and fungi.
The quiet and portable unit (about the size of a large oatmeal canister) purifies the air in an office without the need for costly filter replacements. It does not require modification of existing HVAC systems and runs on 120-volt alternating current, using less energy than a 60-watt light bulb.
Independent laboratory testing showed a 97.7-percent reduction in mold over a four-day test period, and a greater than 95-percent reduction in the level of medium and large particulates such as dust and pollen. Further testing indicated that odors from solvents (butyl acetate) and plastics (methyl methacrylate) were reduced by half.
The unit sells for a suggested retail price of $699. For more information, contact AirSource at 866/473-2824.
