by Shane Henson — January 18, 2013—Arconas, a specialty furniture manufacturer of seating for airports and public waiting areas, recently won a contract to supply more than 5,000 seats to the new Hong Kong cruise terminal, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, located in Victoria Harbour, an old airport runway in the heart of Hong Kong.
Designed by Foster+Partners architects, upon opening in mid-2013, the cruise terminal will provide a gateway to Hong Kong, and from Hong Kong to Asia.
According to Arconas, its Bernù Aero seating series, designed by Canadian industrial designer Davide Tonizzo, was selected after a thorough evaluation process. The company considers its Bernù line to be its most contemporary offering. Available with curved or straight beams, this finely crafted product can be configured to create dynamic, inviting seating areas. The aeronautically inspired design is sharp and modern, and seating is available with a selection of finishes and materials.
“We are very proud to be part of this project and to bring some great Canadian design to such a high-profile building. We have supplied our seating to over 200 airports around the world, including the Hong Kong Airport, but this is our largest cruise terminal contract,” said Pablo Reich, executive vice president for Arconas.
In addition to its comprehensive range of modular and public seating solutions, the company also offers portable workstations, task and cafe chairs, and occasional tables. Arconas’ work can be found in major airport and transportation terminals, government offices, universities, healthcare centers and corporate offices throughout the world.
