Deloitte course examines use of cognitive technologies

by Brianna Crandall — October 30, 2015—Deloitte University Press recently announced the launch of a free massive open online course (MOOC) on the applications of cognitive technology that will run until December 8, 2015. “Cognitive Technologies: The Real Opportunities for Business” examines artificial intelligence and its impact on businesses across industries.

Cognitive technologies, or artificial intelligence (AI)

Cognitive technologies, more broadly referred to as artificial intelligence (AI), are “no longer just science fiction.” They simulate human reasoning and perceptual skills, which can give businesses entirely new capabilities and enable organizations to break prevailing trade-offs between speed, cost and quality, explains Deloitte.

Some experts have called artificial intelligence “more important than anything since the industrial revolution.” That can make this course essential for professionals in nearly every sector who work in business, operations, strategy, information technology (IT), talent and other disciplines, says Deloitte.

“Cognitive Technologies: The Real Opportunities for Business”

Taught by leading thinkers in the field, the course is aimed at a general business audience. It demystifies artificial intelligence; provides an overview of a wide range of cognitive technologies such as machine learning, automation, and robotics, and broadly how they work; and offers a framework to help participants understand how they could affect their business.

The course aims to prepare learners to gauge suitable applications for each technology as well as ways to implement specific cognitive technologies and assess how they impact workers and the design of work. It offers a framework for executives to understand the business implications of cognitive technologies and can help them shape the AI strategy in their organization.

Cognitive Technologies: The Real Opportunities for Business” is the second MOOC offering from Deloitte University Press and builds on the success of the first course, “3D Opportunity: The Course on Additive Manufacturing for Business Leaders.” More than 13,000 people registered for the first course.
