by Brianna Crandall — June 19, 2013—The Chicago headquarters of DIRTT, creator of eco-friendly custom prefab interiors worldwide, launched its brand new Chicago Green Learning Center (GLC) coinciding with NeoCon 2013, held June 10-12. The GLC unveiled the company’s innovations in healthcare, education, residential and commercial interiors in a completely customized space reportedly delivered significantly faster, greener and more efficiently than with conventional construction.
At the GLC, Ice Edge, the team behind DIRTT’s propriety ICE design and manufacturing software, unveiled i-Cube, an “entirely new” technology that allows users to create fully customizable DIRTT Millwork and Casegoods.
DIRTT Millwork is fully customizable, modular cabinetry. Just like built-in-situ millwork, users can create the perfect piece to fit the perfect space, but unlike conventional millwork, DIRTT Millwork reportedly offers a set price, a fast lead-time, smooth install and long-term agility.
According to the company, DIRTT Millwork works for nearly any application: healthcare, corporate, residential, education, or government. Finishes and shapes are determined by the designer to suit the space. Using ICE software, the designer designs while the software specifies, prices and produces manufacturing information. The “perfect” piece is produced quickly and without error, adds DIRTT.
ICE is a 3D (three-dimensional) design platform with embedded product logic. The new ICE i-Cube can be used by casegoods or millwork manufacturers and clients who want to improve order accuracy, reduce planning and design time, get instant price updates, and deliver a custom product without the extra cost. The manufacturer captures the information needed from the same ICE file the client approves for order. DIRTT says the cutting-edge software smoothly takes clients from concept to design to manufacturing to installation, saving time, money, materials and energy every step of the way. ICE combined with pre-engineered DIRTT solutions means the elimination of job-site construction material waste and recycling of all kinds, adds the company.
DIRTT says the company is “Doing It Right This Time” by modernizing the multibillion dollar construction industry. According to DIRTT, each year in the United States approximately 5 billion square feet of new construction is built, 5 billion square feet of renovation, and 1.75 billion square feet of demolition. From this over 135 million tons of debris ends up in landfills, accounting for 48 percent of total carbon dioxide emissions. DIRTT’s custom prefab solutions allow clients to build within their new or existing real estate. The speed, flexibility and customization of DIRTT reportedly means a more efficient and sustainable process than conventional; not just in renovations but also in initial construction, meeting owners’ and managers’ present and future needs.
