by Shane Henson — January 31, 2014—The GE Lighting group of multinational technology giant General Electric Company recently launched a series of light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires for low-bay retail and industrial applications that are designed to enhance the ambiance of a space without adding to the electricity costs.
The Lumination IS Series LED Luminaires are suited for low-bay, open-ceiling environments. The LED fixtures’ indirect light source produces an even glow that radiates from its aerodynamic “reflector” design, yielding greater illuminance over vertical and horizontal surfaces with minimal glare, says GE Lighting. Also, unlike traditional fluorescent lighting fixtures with visible tubes, GE’s Lumination IS Series LED Luminaires are designed to create a modern, sophisticated appearance that enhances the visual landscape of low-bay retail, warehouse and industrial environments without sacrificing performance.
“In low-bay environments where both brand image and performance are key—such as grocery stores, retail superstores and convenience stores—efficient lighting can be a crucial component,” said Elizabeth Skierski, an indoor suspended LED product manager for GE Lighting. “GE Lumination IS Series LED Luminaires are the perfect solution for upgrading traditionally drab low-bay lighting fixtures with sleek, contemporary illuminance while increasing overall visibility for customers and workers navigating amongst goods stocked on shelves and on the warehouse floor.”
Available in 1×4 and 1×8 models, the Lumination IS Series LED Luminaires’ innovative rail fastening system allows each unit to be suspended from current ceiling supports. Additionally, GE’s new LED lighting fixtures are electrically connected in a modular “daisy chain” fashion and mechanically connected with a simple snap-in feature between fixtures. These features allow for a sequential line of units to be quickly and easily snapped and powered together, greatly reducing additional installation time and labor costs.
GE Lighting adds that its newest fixtures offer a multitude of benefits compared to traditional fluorescent lighting fixtures: the luminaires are designed to eliminate dark spots between fixtures, maximizing lumen (light) output and creating a sleek, continuous aesthetic, and they are engineered to feature a high-quality color rendering index up to 80. Rated for 65,000 hours, the fixtures are dimmable and can be seamlessly integrated with energy management lighting control systems and sensors to provide the best possible energy and maintenance savings.
