by jbs021110c3 — February 19, 2010—The U.S. General Services Administration has provided a means for federal agencies to easily obtain green products and services to fulfill their goals under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and under President Obama’s October 2009 sustainability executive order calling on the federal government to lead by example in greening and modernizing the nation’s infrastructure.
To help agencies meet these goals, GSA set Comprehensive Professional Energy Services agreements with 18 companies to perform services, including energy audits, energy performance monitoring, and implementation of renewable energy solutions, that will help federal agencies leverage their purchasing power and promote sustainability across the federal government.
GSA says that these agreements give agencies the necessary resources to achieve LEED certification for government facilities; ensure that all buildings and renovations are designed to reduce fuel consumption as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007; and help agencies plan, monitor, and report results with Energy Star and other energy efficiency initiatives.
