by Shane Henson — August 8, 2011—LP Building Products has expanded its panel offerings for LP FlameBlock Fire-Rated Oriented Strand Board (OSB) Sheathing. With the addition of 7/16 category panels carrying a 24/16 span rating, LP FlameBlock Sheathing is now available for use in roof decks and other applications in which panels of this thickness and span rating meet code requirements.
The availability of the panels in 7/16, 15/32, and 19/32 categories allows designers and builders in any region of North America to construct roof decks of uniform thickness, while satisfying snow load and fire code requirements, with an exposure 1 panel that withstands moisture during normal construction delays.
LP FlameBlock Sheathing also offers structural performance and fire resistance in one panel. Created by applying a proprietary, non-combustible, fiberglass-reinforced Pyrotite coating to LP OSB panels, LP FlameBlock products are ICC certified, PS2-rated structural sheathing with a Class A Flame Spread Rating. They also provide extended burn-through resistance, delivering a 20-minute thermal barrier (ASTM E119), and contain no hazardous chemicals.
In fire-rated, load-bearing walls, LP FlameBlock panels can reduce the time and cost associated with installing either double layers of gypsum or a combination of gypsum and structural sheathing. They are available in standard and Struct-1 grades, in 8-, 9-, and 10-foot lengths. LP FlameBlock Sheathing delivers all the advantages of plywood without cupping, warping, splitting or delamination.
