NEEP publishes operations and maintenance guide for schools and public facilities

by Shane Henson — October 28, 2013—Through a comprehensive new guide published by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) aimed particularly at the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, facilities managers of schools and public facilities can receive clear, actionable recommendations for reducing energy usage and improving the workplace environment.

The Regional Operations and Maintenance Guide for Schools and Public Buildings in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic covers everything from building envelope efficiency to vehicle anti-idling policies and procurement and water conservation, says NEEP.

The guide contains operations and maintenance procedures that will help buildings reduce their operating costs, as well as lead to healthier indoor air, improved student and staff comfort, reduced water consumption, improved environmental stewardship, and overall improvements in the learning environment.

The guide has already aided some schools.

“It has helped Cranston Public Schools understand and make improvements to our buildings. We knew we were doing a great job in terms of our energy savings, but the guide has helped us identify additional ways to save. The NEEP O&M Guide should be required reading for all maintenance personnel,” said Karen Verrengia, energy manager for Cranston Public Schools in Rhode Island.
