by Brianna Crandall — June 24, 2013—Teknion Corporation showcased the new Optos Low Profile seamless glass architectural wall product at its expanded and redesigned Merchandise Mart showroom during NeoCon 2013 in Chicago June 10-12. Optos collected a Best of NeoCon Silver Award under the Walls: Movable category, and Teknion’s Interpret desking system garnered a Silver Award in the Furniture Systems: Enhancements category. Winners were determined by a jury of more than 40 designers, architects and facilities managers.
Optos Low Profile walls are designed to provide unparalleled access to daylight in interior spaces, offer acoustic privacy, and create space division. The structure is minimal, and sophisticated rectilinear profiles were engineered to blend harmoniously with modern interior architecture, says Teknion.
Optos Low Profile has a European aesthetic while being sensitive to North American building needs, and is ideal for use in creating private offices and storefront planning, enclaves, boardrooms and casual lounge surrounds, says the company.
The base and ceiling frame elements include patented incremental height adjustment. This provides leveling flexibility to meet North American building standards, setting Optos Low Profile apart from competitors, points out Teknion. Multi-stage base and ceiling leveling features along with a ceiling track make retrofitting to existing architecture possible, where floor to ceiling dimensions are seldom consistent. Optos Low Profile was designed and engineered to install efficiently with minimal impact to the base building.
Wall starts and corner connections respond to direct integration with base building and alternatively with Teknion’s Altos wall system. Transparent connections between precision-polished and mitered glass are achieved with clear, high-bond tape. Optos Low Profile includes advanced door solutions like a framed pivot door with integrated closure, and barn doors with an integrated dampener.
A number of design refinements have been made to Teknion’s Silver-winning Interpret contemporary benching and desking system since last year. Extensive new planning applications were introduced, including the reportedly unique ability to create a more open benching or desking environment while retaining the option to create a more privacy-focused, enclosed panel-like environment.
In addition, a distinctive metal storage program and associated accessories collection was designed to address the work habits and technology requirements of today’s mobile workers, offering lockable, sharable storage rather than more traditional document filing needs. Desk-edge casual screens offer beyond-expected levels of privacy, and can provide enclosure at various heights below the desk. Additional color and finish options round out the enhancements.
