by Ann Withanee — June 22, 2011—Sola conference seating proves that minimalist design can achieve maximum impact, says Davis. This light and airy chair, designed and developed exclusively for Davis by Justus Kolberg, boasts a distinctive, sculptured form marked by dramatic use of angles and slender, uninterrupted lines. Each component, from the base and stem to the arms and seat, was designed uniquely for Sola, making it a truly one-of-a-kind chair.
Sola received a Gold Award in the Best of NeoCon product competition. Sola was unveiled during the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, held annually in Chicago at The Merchandise Mart. Davis also won three Gold awards and one Silver.
“Startlingly” beautiful from both sides, Sola features a fully upholstered shell with classic horizontal stitching detail. Sola is also available with an oak, beech, or walnut exposed wood veneer shell and an upholstered seat and back insert. The L-shaped shell that forms the seat and back is designed to be supportive, yet flexible for superior comfort.
Sola’s aluminum arms start at the base, flowing upward and around on each side in one fluid, aerodynamic motion. Available with plastic arm caps, leather wraps, or exposed aluminum, the arms are independent from the back. This design detail along with the cantilevered shape make the chair appear from certain angles as if it is floating in midair, says the company.
Users can customize their Sola experience through spring tilt adjustments, a smooth rocking mechanism with lockout, and pneumatic height adjustment. The low-profile five-star base is available with casters or glides, making this chair ideal for individual executive offices as well as formal conference and small meeting spaces.
