North Shore-LIJ Health System taps Skire Inc. for construction management

by Rebecca Walker — July 26, 2010&7mdash;North Shore-LIJ Health System has selected Skire Inc.’s Unifier solution to help manage its five-year, $2 billion capital improvement program.

Unifier will seamlessly work within all of North Shore-LIJ’s construction business processes, including controlling budget and cash flow, tracking contracts, and managing schedules while creating transparency into its project portfolio.

North Shore-LIJ is the second largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system in the nation. Serving over seven million people, North Shore-LIJ is the ninth-largest employer in New York City and the largest on Long Island, with a workforce of about 42,000.

Approximately 300 projects are underway at any particular time within North Shore-LIJ, which consists of hospitals, long-term care facilities, a research institute, trauma centers, home health agencies and outpatient centers. With such a large organization, it is imperative that a system is in place to deliver visibility and control over projects, ensuring all capital improvement initiatives are staying on schedule and within budget, notes Skire.

North Shore-LIJ was previously using a limited project management tool to track budgets, but realized it needed a more robust, multi-purpose solution that could control additional business processes. Through a meticulous selection process, North Shore-LIJ ultimately chose Skire’s Unifier because of the flexibility and sophisticated workflow it offered in addition to its established user-base within the healthcare industry. The solution will be delivered through a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.

The selection of Unifier by North Shore-LIJ Health System further establishes Skire as a leading technology provider to the healthcare industry. North Shore-LIJ, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital and many others rely on Skire’s Unifier to provide best-in-class project controls capabilities enabling them to improve the predictability of major projects across the paradigm of cost, scope and schedule, says the company.
