by Brianna Crandall — December 21, 2015—Otis Elevator, a unit of United Technologies Corp., has entered into a multimillion-dollar agreement with Prairie District3 Partners, a joint venture led by Clark Construction Group, to supply elevator and escalator units for Chicago’s McCormick Place convention facility campus, one of the city’s key destinations and one of the largest convention facilities in North America.
As part of this expansion, Otis will provide 39 people-moving units for a new multipurpose arena and flagship hotel. This includes 13 Skyrise elevators, 14 Gen2 elevators, and 12 energy-efficient, environmentally responsible NCE escalators.
The highly anticipated project features the 10,500-seat McCormick Place Event Center and 40-story McCormick Place Headquarters Hotel, which will operate as a Marriott Marquis. The venture also includes renovating the historic American Book Co. building and constructing pedestrian bridges that will connect the hotel with the event center and other campus attractions.
Prairie District3 Partners is designing and building the McCormick Place project. On-site work has begun on the campus, and a substantial amount of the project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2017.
