by Ann Withanee — January 19, 2011—Teknion Corporation announced that its new Conflux LED Lighting line by industrial designer Carl Gustav Magnusson has been honored with an iF product design award in the 2011 iF International Forum Design, based in Hannover, Germany. The award marks the second time in as many years that one of Teknion’s new workplace products has earned an iF product design award.

The Conflux LED Lighting collection introduces design and technology advancements with its flat-panel structure and power source capabilities. It is the first LED lamp in the industry to use a PIR (Passive InfraRed) sensor that works based on infrared waves emitted by the user’s body, according to the company. It is the first LED lamp with USB port/outlet that allows hand-held devices to be plugged in, and the first with a Powermat surface in the lamp base to recharge electronic devices. Conflux produces 1000 LUX from 9 watts, offers a life span of up to 50,000 hours and reduces energy consumption. Conflux is PVC- and lead-free, GREENGUARD Certified and RoHS compliant. Light emitted through the Conflux optical prism removes the glare commonly associated with LED bulbs.

iF product design award evaluation criteria embraces design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of use, safety, brand value, branding and universal design.

Conflux will be featured at the iF exhibition for prizewinners, which will run for four months beginning in March, at the Hannover Exhibition Center in Hannover, Germany. The iF exhibition attracts nearly 300,000 visitors, informing the public about the latest trends in design.

The iF Product Design Award was introduced in 1954 and is annually conferred by the iF International Forum Design. Based in Hannover, this classic competition devoted to different product design disciplines has since evolved to become one of the world’s foremost design competitions. Among other firms honored in the competition are Samsung, Apple, Siemens, and Dell (China).
