by Shane Henson — December 5, 2011—The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has launched its online App Lab, a searchable catalog of third-party apps that are integrated with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) data, as part of its LEED Automation Program. The program, developed in collaboration with leading technology companies, is designed to streamline and create capacity for the LEED building certification process.
According to USGBC representatives, eight applications, developed by LEED Automation partners, are currently offered and are designed for use with Internet browsers, tablets, smartphones and other devices. Each app is a fully functional software tool that has been enhanced to provide LEED projects teams and administrators integration with LEED Online and address the LEED certification process.
For example, the app Greengrade is a comprehensive, online LEED management software application. This Web-based tool allows teams to collaborate, communicate, and track project information in a dynamic and centralized environment. SeriousEnergy Manager (SEM), another app offered, makes it easier for those overseeing the business of building ownership and the operation of building facilities to make smarter, faster and more cost-effective energy-related decisions.
