by Brianna Crandall — April 4, 2018 — The Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE) has approved UV Resources as a Continuing Education Provider for the organization, which regulates the practice of engineering in the state. UV Resources (UVR) provides education, design and innovative engineering of affordable ultraviolet-C (UV-C) equipment and software for a variety of commercial, healthcare, government and residential heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) applications.
The free one-hour training course offered by UV Resources is titled “How UV-C Can Reduce HVAC Energy, Maintenance Costs and Improve IAQ,” and offers an overview of the various benefits ultraviolet germicidal energy provides commercial HVAC/R systems.

Dan Jones, president of UV Resources, noted:
Widely embraced in the 1990s to improve indoor air quality, many engineers now recognize UV-C as a proven means of keeping HVAC systems running optimally and cost-effectively.
According to the UV Resources Web site, light energy in the UV-C wavelength “has been used extensively in HVAC equipment since the mid-1990s to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) by eliminating the buildup of biofilms and other organic contaminants on the surfaces of system components, including cooling coils, plenum interiors, drain pans, and air filters. UV-C works by disassociating elemental bonds, which in turn disinfects and disintegrates organic materials.”
The CEU course explores global building technology society ASHRAE’s findings about how the UV-C wavelength is used to not only kill microbial contaminants, but how it also improves, maintains and assures A/C system performance while reducing system maintenance and energy consumption.
As an approved training provider, UV Resources will offer coursework for the professional organization’s 41,000 active licensed engineers in the state of Florida. Licensed PEs in Florida are required to complete 18 hours of continuing education during each registration period in order to maintain their professional credentials.
There is no charge for the course, which can be delivered in person by trained UV Resources representatives.
