W. R. MEADOWS launches accredited course on air barriers

by Brianna Crandall — November 23, 2015—W. R. MEADOWS has added a course on air barriers as the latest installment in its educational offerings for the architectural community. The company offers 10 courses via the AEC Daily Web site that not only help teach aspects of different elements including (but not limited to) the building envelope, waterproofing, and concrete restoration, but also count towards AIA credit.

The new Detailing Air Barriers course is one hour long and focuses on specific techniques for installing the various types of air barrier materials. Air barriers are used as an integral part of a high-performance building enclosure, and while most architects understand the whys, they may not be clear on the installation details.

This important layer of the building envelope requires careful detailing and installation, says W.R. MEADOWS. Some firms are even requiring meetings with installation contractors to be sure details are correctly executed.

Detailing Air Barriers covers the tricky details of installation, including rough openings, roof-to-walls, and joints between different building materials. This program is registered with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (AIA / CES) or continuing professional education, and is approved for Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) requirements. The course earns one learning unit (LU).

Reminding that air barriers are hot topics these days due to current codes and standards in place, and that they are a significant detail in all building envelope systems, including those of W. R. MEADOWS, the company encourages readers to sign up for the course and learn the intricate details of installation, and to earn credit while doing so.

Many other courses are offered by W. R. MEADOWS via AEC Daily, including lunch-and-learn presentations on-site for a specific firm.
