by Shane Henson — January 23, 2012—When searching for ways to conserve water and reduce costs, facilities managers would be wise to head to the bathroom to check the efficiency of their building’s toilets—which are often huge water and money guzzlers. If there is room for improvement, American Standard, a manufacturer of a wide range of high-quality building products, now offers a new line of high-efficiency commercial toilet flushing systems that the company says conserves nearly one-third the amount of water used by a standard toilet.

The high-efficiency toilet (HET) system combines FloWise water-saving technology and innovative hands-free Selectronic controls, ideally suited to the American Standard Madera or Afwall commercial toilets—to efficiently clear the bowl using just 1.1 gallons per flush (gpf), a savings of 31% over a standard 1.6 gpf toilet. Compared to a standard 1.28 gpf HET, these new systems yield an additional 11% water savings, say the systems’ designers.

Engineered to deliver a powerful flush, these 1.1 gpf flushometer toilet systems have been third-party certified to flush 800 grams of solid waste in the maximum-performance test, an independent report of toilet bulk-removal performance, while also attaining the maximum drain-line carry.

The Afwall FloWise wall-mounted toilet and Madera FloWise floor-mounted toilet, both available in white, are rated for the entire range of flush volumes—1.1 gpf through 1.6 gpf—making these universal bowls ideal for a variety of challenging commercial applications.

The Madera toilet is available in standard height, as well as ADA-compliant models that conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Both the Madera and Afwall feature the EverClean permanent finish that inhibits the growth of stain- and odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew on the surface.
